Laura Villalobos holds a joint position as an Assistant Professor of Economics in the Economics and Finance Department of the Franklin P. Perdue School of and the Environmental Studies Department in the Fulton School of Liberal Arts. Before joining Salisbury University, Laura was a postdoctoral researcher at the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) in Washington, D.C. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden. She has over ten years of experience as an environmental economist, writing about the effectiveness of forest conservation policies, including protected areas, payments for ecosystem services, forest certification, forest concessions, and watershed management. She also studies how environmental conditions like air quality, temperature, and precipitation affect human capital. Her vision is to provide evidence on what works to prevent and adapt to degraded environmental conditions.
